Whitechapel Murders Shock District
September 9th, 1888
Middlesex Fair-Trade
To the horrible murders in Whitechapel there seems to be no end. It appears almost incredible that within such a short space of time four assassinations should have been possible, without the slightest clue being left. The whole available detective force are engaged in the endeavour to trace the murderer, and with nine out of ten of the inhabitants to aid them as amateur detectives, it is just possible that fewer would do the work more effectively.
The cowardly deeds have been perpetrated in such brutal fashion that one can only ascribe them to a homicidal maniac. An ordinary murderer could hardly fail to leave a trace of some kind, whereas a lunatic is very likely to be cunning enough not to do so. The capture of the real murderer will much relieve the public mind, which, especially in the Whitechapel district, is naturally greatly excited.
